Over the weekend 10th-12th October, eight cadets and four Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) from Shropshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) represented their county with distinction at the 2025 Rifles Cup, hosted by the 1st Battalion The Rifles at the Caerwent Training Area in South Wales.
Over the weekend, the Shropshire team joined 13 other teams from both the Army Cadet Force (ACF) and Combined Cadet Force (CCF) to tackle a wide range of challenging military-themed activities designed and delivered by serving Riflemen.
Saturday saw cadets covering over 11 miles on foot as they moved between stands, all of which were expertly run by Riflemen to ensure the most up-to-date training and techniques were passed on.
In a display of outstanding enthusiasm and professionalism, Shropshire ACF was the only team to request additional time on the purpose-built room clearance stand, using it to practice complex stairwells and upper floor clearance tactics. Their commitment didn’t go unnoticed, with staff observing from above and praising their determination to improve.
On Sunday, cadets were put through their paces by the PTIs (Physical Training Instructors) in a 1,500-metre best effort run, followed by a circuit of high-intensity exercises. Later in the day, the teams got hands-on with Support Company weaponry, including the Javelin anti-tank system, 81mm Mortars, the GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun), and even had the opportunity to speak with Snipers and Recce specialists.
A highlight of the weekend was meeting senior figures, including the Brigadier and Colonel Cadets, before enjoying a well-earned BBQ to close the event.
The standout moment for Shropshire came at the final presentation, where their hard work and teamwork were rewarded with an impressive 2nd place finish among ACF teams, a tremendous result that reflects the dedication and talent within the unit.
CSM James from Shropshire ACF said:
“It was an exceptional weekend with a great mix of cadets, knowledge-sharing, and real hands-on experiences. Huge thanks to 1 Rifles, the Permanent Staff Support (PSS) team, and all involved in bringing this event together. The future is bright for these cadets.”
