28 Oct Thank You, Col Mytton – What a Remarkable Journey
Marking 50 Years of Dedication to the Army Cadet Force.
Today, we say a heartfelt thank you and farewell to our Commandant Col Mytton, as he completes his time with Shropshire. It’s not just the end of a chapter for us, but a chance to celebrate an extraordinary career dedicated to the Army Cadet Force and generations of young people.
From Cadet to Commandant: A Lifelong Commitment
Our Commandant’s journey began back in 1970 when he joined Rhayader Detachment as a young cadet. His commitment and leadership shone early, rising through the ranks to become a Staff Sergeant. In 1975, he took the next step and became an adult instructor, guiding cadets with the same care and encouragement he once received.
In 1982, his path led him to Warwickshire ACF, where he served in a variety of roles, always putting the needs of the cadets and the organisation first. His leadership skills were soon recognised further afield, and in 2002 he was appointed Deputy Commandant in Derbyshire. A few years later, he returned to Warwickshire, once again taking up the deputy role. His dedication culminated in his appointment as Commandant, not just in Warwickshire, but also Shropshire a few years later.
Major Achievements and Recognition
Fifty years of service as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer is no small feat. This incredible milestone is being honoured with the award of the 6th clasp to the Cadet Forces Medal , a rare and well-deserved recognition of commitment, resilience, and impact. Beyond his formal roles, our Commandant’s passion for competition and teamwork was clear in his leadership of the Bisley support team, helping countless cadets experience the excitement and challenge of target rifle competitions.
Share Your Memories
We invite everyone to share their stories, memories, and photos of the Commandant, especially those with Shropshire. Your words and pictures will help celebrate his long and meaningful journey, reminding us all of the difference one dedicated volunteer can make.
Thank you for your decades of service, your unwavering support, and your inspiring leadership.
You leave a legacy that will be felt for years to come, and we wish you all the very best in your next adventure.
Don’t forget to keep in touch and happy retirement.
