Opportunities to Learn, Lead and Succeed

The Shropshire Army Cadet Force Trust (SACFT) provides a pathway for young Army Cadets to learn valuable vocational, social, communication, education and life skills in preparation for adulthood. The Shropshire area has 22 detachments and supports 500 Cadets with the assistance of 110 adult volunteers.

Who is SACFT?

The Trust was founded to raise money to help fund a diverse annual programme of vocational and citizenship training and social activities for Shropshire Army Cadets that the Ministry of Defence does not fund.

A local committee manages the Trust, including chairman Dr Graham Wynn OBE, Secretary Colonel Marius Coulon TD, MCGI and trustee Major Charlie Millar. The Trust’s patron, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner, JP, supports the board of trustees.

What is SACFT’s Vision?

The Trust is committed to supporting young Army Cadets who, for whatever reason, cannot afford the range of learning and development activities available via the Shropshire Army Cadet Force. By raising sufficient funds, all Cadets have an equal chance to benefit from gaining new skills, friendships, and prospects through the development programmes.

Activities include physical outdoor pursuits, job-related qualifications (for example, first aid courses, vocational qualifications and Duke of Edinburgh awards), and survival skills. Tasks and projects may take place in the local community and support national Army events and programmes. Opportunities include visits to overseas military units and adventure training activities.

Who can Support SACFT?

The short and long answer to this question is anyone.

If you have the time to do so, have diverse life skills, could help the Trust with fundraising events, could support financially or could volunteer to help the Trust with their fundraising endeavours.

Embarking on a volunteering or sponsorship journey with the Army Cadet Force Trust opens the door to many benefits. Whether it’s acquiring new skills, expanding your social network, embracing challenges, or gaining valuable experience, the outcome will be rewarding. No military background is necessary, as comprehensive training is provided to equip you for your role.

The Background

The Shropshire Army Cadet Force Trust is registered as a CIO and covers the county of Shropshire, including Telford and Wrekin. Adventure training and skill-based experience help equip today’s youngsters with a resilient, confident and balanced mindset to take on the challenges of tomorrow.

Cadets develop self-confidence, self-reliance, initiative and leadership. These skills allow them to reach their full potential and provide a solid foundation for the future and seeking employment. The Cadets are taught to be moral citizens and offered opportunities to accomplish things they wouldn’t otherwise do.

The Shropshire Army Cadet Force Trust assists in delivering the best possible chances to Cadets by encouraging them to realise their potential and optimise their prospects in life. The Trust ensures every Cadet gains the opportunity for training and personal development despite any adverse personal financial circumstances.

The Trust will support the Cadet detachments where needed, such as equipment provision and providing funding for training and activities.
